Food 2 Kids "Backpack" Program
Food 2 Kids supplies participating schools with a nutritious, kid-friendly, self-serve food sack designed to fit in the backpack of a child deemed chronically hungry by their teacher. These children then receive approximately two meals worth of food each Friday. In the 2009-2010 school year, the WTFB provided almost 50,000 bags of food to schools in Odessa and El Paso in this program administered and funded by the Junior Leagues of Odessa and El Paso. The cost of a bag averages about $4 each.
