Kids Cafe provides nutritious evening meals at after-school programs to children who participate in their school’s free or reduced-price lunch programs, but may otherwise not receive a third meal at home. Kids Cafe is the most expansive child feeding program in the nation, thanks to the work of Feeding America.
The WTFB currently has three Kids Cafe sites and prepares about 26,000 meals per year, with 23,250 of those meals served during the school year and 2,500 meals served during the summer in concert with the efforts of the Boys and Girls Club and Third Edition Odessa.
The school year program is supplemented by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and USDA through a program called Child and Adult Care Food Program, or CACFP. The summer program is also supplemented by the TDA and USDA thru a program called Summer Food Service Program, or SFSP.
