With Christmas coming next week, many in Odessa were in the giving spirit Saturday morning. Hundreds of children were lined up outside the Club La Playa waiting to receive their presents for the "Santa's Helpers toy give-away". The La Caliente radio station helped give out more than 300 gifts to the children. Santa was also on hand to meet with the kids and take pictures. Organizers say what better time to hold an event like this than the holidays.
"I guess sometimes everybody forgets that the spirit of Christmas is giving. That's the thing we always need to remember and just to see the kids, they're all excited," said Richard Esparza, one of the organizers of Santa's Helpers.
Many families at the event helped give back to the community by donating canned food for the West Texas Food Bank for the holidays.
