The West Texas Food Bank surpassed its fundraising goal for the year, earning more than $100,000 from its Culinary Canvas fundraiser.
Food bank finance director Joey Ruiz reported that the food bank’s main fundraiser had revenue of $104,546, exceeding the $100,000 goal food bank officials hoped to have by the end of the year. [WTFB note: this was our goal for the event, not the entire year.]
The money will enable the food bank to provide meals to the 22 counties it encompasses, including the Odessa, Alpine and El Paso areas.
Culinary Canvas featured Academy-award winning singer B.J. Thomas, known for the “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” theme “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.” Tickets to the event were $50. A $1 donation provides for about four meals.
