The Alpine agents of the U.S. Border Patrol held a food drive this summer to benefit the Food Pantry of Alpine.

The drive was a challenge between units to collect the most non-perishable foods by weight.

Through a combined effort by all Alpine Station Units, agents donated almost 7,000 pounds to the Food Pantry of Alpine by collecting 356 pounds in June, 1,098 pounds in July and 5,504 pounds in August.

Unit Charlie won the contest by collecting 2,417 pounds in August.

The next food distribution by the Food Pantry of Alpine is Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Alpine office of the West Texas Food Bank, 2101 FM 1703, near the intersection of FM 1703 and W. U.S. Hwy. 90.

Any organization that is interested in a food drive to benefit the Food Pantry of Alpine should contact Gregory Schwab at 432-837-8039. To make a monetary donation to the Food Pantry of Alpine, visit www.foodpantryofalpine.org.
