Odessa, TX – After airing a story on the food crisis that’s cutting produce and meat out of the inventory for the West Texas Food Bank, a donation challenge has been presented by a CBS 7 viewer.
Chuck Sturgeon, of NC Sturgeon Construction, has donated the money to purchase half a truck of chicken for the food bank; Sturgeon is now challenging the community to help fill the other half.
That means the West Texas Food Bank needs the help of West Texans through monetary donations to purchase the rest of the chicken.
Sturgeon’s donation of $11,500 is the largest he has ever made to any organization saying, “I can't believe that in this economy, doing so well that we didn't have someone doing this already."
One Semi-truck will provide 42,000 lbs. of chicken for clients of the food bank.
The food bank is purchasing the truck load through HEB at their wholesale price of $23,000.
